Interns for the 2026-27 Academic Year
The HoriZone Roundtable, a sports media outlet that provides comprehensive coverage for teams within the Horizon League, is seeking a writing intern whose focus will be each of the conference’s 12 member schools for the 2026-27 academic year. This program is intended to provide students with a unique learning environment that combines hands-on writing experience with a weekly discussion designed to improve students’ skills as a journalist. The internship begins with an introductory session via Zoom on August 24, 2026 (time TBD). Intern’s commitment may include dedicating time between semesters to accommodate for the coverage of sporting events. This is an unpaid position, and hours will be in line with the minimum established for the student’s internship course (typically 10 hours, but varies by school) that includes a one-hour weekly Zoom session with all interns.
Internship Requirements:
- Enrollment in an internship course (preferably for two semesters)
- Writing experience
- Access to Zoom, Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in sports writing
- Social media experience
- Familiarity with NCAA competition

Columnists
We are seeking writers for each of the Horizon League’s member schools, as well as general assignment writers who are interested in covering any team. Candidates should be available to write once a week during basketball season and less frequently during the off-season. (Note: This is an unpaid position).
Preferred Requirements:
- Knowledge of the school that you are covering is preferred, but not required. This may include knowledge beyond men’s and/or women’s basketball.
- Previous writing experience (we ask for examples of your work). Those with no prior writing experience will be asked to submit a writing sample.
- Experience with multimedia (photography, audio, video) preferred, but not required.
- Experience with social media.
Columnists will be also be invited to join the podcast for the annual writer’s forum episode.
Social Media Coordinator
We are seeking a social media coordinator to manage all social media accounts for the HoriZone Roundtable, which currently include Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Discord, Threads and Bluesky. This role will also collaborate with the editorial staff on posting articles to Twitter and editing Instagram posts after publication, as well as evaluated emerging social media platforms to determine the potential to reach new audiences, presenting findings to the Publisher for final review and approval. (Note: This is an unpaid position).
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience with managing multiple social media platforms.
- Experience with Experience with multimedia (photography, audio, video) preferred.
