The Green Bay Phoenix were able to complete the weekend sweep starting with their win Wednesday against IUPUI, the women’s teams getting wins Thursday and Saturday, with a 79-71 win over the Cleveland State Vikings.

It was a physical, back and forth contest throughout most of the first half. Cleveland State shot a red-hot 15-27 from the field, led by Tae Williams. The Vikings scored 26 of their first half 35 points from within the paint.  However, it was Green Bay who went into the break leading 38-35 thanks in part to 16 first half points by Phoenix phenom Noah Reynolds.  The Phoenix were 12-28 from the field, but had seven made threes and a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line to outpace the Vikings.

The second half was more of the same.  Cleveland State built a lead up to 6 but each time Green Bay was able to storm back.  The Phoenix trailed most of the second half until Noah Reynolds hit a pair of free throws with 2:35 left.  This was part of a 12-0 run for the Phoenix where Green Bay built the lead up to eight before a Tae Williams free throw broke the run.

Green Bay was able to close the game at the free throw line.  Noah Reynolds led all scorers with 32 points.  Foster Wonders chipped in 15 points from off the bench, with all 5 made shots coming from the 3 point arc.  Elijah Jones also reached double digit scoring with 13, with 8 coming in the 2nd half.

Green Bay is back on the road, heading out for a rematch against Wright State, who Green Bay upset 88-77 at the end of December.  Tip-off will be at 6pm CT on Thursday January 18th from the Nutter Center.
