For the first time since the 2021-22 season, the Green Bay Phoenix men’s basketball team has swept a season series, taking care of the back end of the series against Wright State with an 88-81 win.
The Raiders started the game with a hot start, jumping out to an early 10-4 lead. Green Bay answered back with an 11-0 run through the first media break. Wright State and Green Bay would exchange runs through the first half, with the Phoenix pulling out to a 39-29 halftime lead in the Nutter Center.
In the second half, Green Bay started hot once again, building the lead up to as much 17 points, at a 54-37 advantage, due in part to some timely 3 point shooting from Marcus Hall and Foster Wonders. The Raiders tightened it up with an intense zone pressure, forcing numerous Phoenix turnovers. However, Green Bay was able to survive each wave. Wright State was able shrink the lead down to 4, before closed the game out.
As he has all season, Noah Reynolds led the way for the Phoenix. The reigning Horizon League Player of the Week led all scorers with 30 points in the win. Preston Ruedinger dropped in a season high 18 points, and Foster Wonders added in 17 as well, topping his season high as well. Freshman forward Marcus Hall tied his career high with 12 points to add into the double digit scoring efforts.
The Phoenix travel to Highland Heights on Saturday evening for its first matchup against the Northern Kentucky Norse. Tip off is set for 5:30 pm CT.
