The Wright State women’s basketball team will try to avoid their third straight loss as they continue Horizon League play on the road against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies at the O’Rena on Friday, December 6 at 7:00PM ET, and it can be seen on ESPN Plus. Both squads are 2-6.

Last time out: Kari Hoffman’s ladies led Detroit Mercy 6-5 early in the first quarter despite turning the ball over six times and led 18-13 after the first quarter, but they ended up trailing by as many as 16 in the fourth quarter before going on a 12-0 run and eventually losing the game 67-56. Wright State had 23 turnovers in that game.

Chloe Chard Peloquin, a transfer from Canisius, had five first-half blocks – which is the first time since 2015-16 that a Raider has accomplished that feat.

About Oakland: Last season, The Golden Grizzlies finished with a overall record of 12-17 and tied with Northern Kentucky for 8th place in the Horizon League. This season, they were picked to finish 9th in the preseason polls. Leading scorer Brooke Quarles-Daniels (Michigan), along with fellow starters Kennedie Montue (Arkansas State) and Kianni Westbrook (Tulane), all transferred; while Linda Van Schaik and Markiya McCormick both graduated. Also, key sub Miriam Ibezim left the program, and it’s unknown whether she transferred or quit basketball altogether. So as a result, Oakland only had five players returned from last season, including Maddy Skorupski and Madison Royal-Davis. They also picked up Kylie Buckley (Niagara) and Dani Grim (Mercyhurst University) in the transfer portal.

Oakland head coach profile: Jeff Tungate is in his 12th season with the Golden Grizzlies. With 144 wins in Rochester, he is the third winningest coach in program history.
