The Wright State Raiders women’s basketball team (2-13, 0-5 Horizon) will continue their Wisconsin road trip action on the road on Saturday, January 3 against the Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix (10-5, 3-1 Horizon) at the Kress Events Center for a 2ET/1CT tip-off.
Last time out: On Thursday night, Kari Hoffman’s squad ended up in last place in the Horizon League standings after they got blown out on the road 75-50 at Wisconsin-Milwaukee despite winning the rebound battle 44-41. Amaya Staton recorded her fourth double-double as a Raider (18 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks), while Macie Taylor had 11 points.

About the Phoenix: Last season, Wisconsin-Green Bay won the Horizon League Tournament over top-seeded Cleveland State. They finished in 2nd place the year before and were picked to finish at that same position this season, but they currently stand in 5th place in the standings. The majority of the Phoenix return their talent from last season, including all 5 starters.
Their top 3 scorers are Natalie McNeal (13.3 ppg), Maddy Schreiber (13.1 ppg); and the 2023-24 Horizon League Co-6th Woman of the Year in Callie Genke (9.1 ppg). Other ket returners include Jenna Guyer, Cassie Schiltz, Jasmine Kondrakiewicz, Bailey Butler and Maren Westin.
Wisconsin-Green Bay head coach profile: Kayla Karius is in her very first season running the show for the Phoenix, replacing the legendary Kevin Borseth whom she played for when she was a freshman. Formerly known as Kayla Tetschlag, Karius played for UWGB from 2007-11 where she scored 1,372 points, won 4 straight Horizon League Championships, and made 3 straight NCAA Tournament appearances under head coach Matt Bollant – including the 2011 Sweet 16. She spent the last two seasons as the head coach at South Dakota (2022-24), where she was an assistant coach beforehand (2016-18). Before then, she was also an assistant coach at Sioux Falls, Wisconsin and Drake.
