Wright State head men’s basketball coach Clint Sargent, the reigning Horizon League Coach of the Year, has agreed to a contract extension to stay with the school through the 2030-31 season.
Sargent has spent the last 10 seasons with the green and gold, but he spent the last two seasons as the man in charge for the men’s basketball program. He spent his first eight seasons as an assistant coach and then as an associate head coach under his mentor, Scott Nagy.
Sargent guided the Raiders to an epic 2025-26 season that saw the program’s first outright Horizon League regular season title since 2019-20, their first-ever Horizon League regular-season and tournament championship sweep, and their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2022. In Sargent’s second season as head coach, WSU earned its 15th season of 20-plus wins in its Division I era with a 23-12 overall record while also winning 15 of its 20 Horizon League contests.
Despite Wright State’s 82-73 loss to Virginia in the first round of March Madness, that game helped the program become a legit mid-major squad in a part of what became the NCAA Tournament’s most-watched opening week of all-time.
Ball State transfer TJ Burch made the Horizon League’s All-First Team while also earning the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year honors, Kellen Pickett was named the conference’s Freshman of the Year, grad student Michael Imariagbe made the second team, Michael Cooper joined Pickett on the All-Freshman team, and redshirt sophomore Solomon Callaghan was a finalist for the Horizon League Sportsmanship Award for the second consecutive year.
Wright State opens up the 2026-27 season at home against Air Force on Monday, November 2 at the Nutter Center, with the tip-off time still yet to be determined.
