Doug Gottlieb’s first official game as the head coach of the Green Bay Phoenix men’s basketball team will come in familiar territory, as he returns to his alma mater on Monday night when the Phoenix play the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Green Bay has a new head man and plenty of new faces up and down the roster. Phoenix fans already are familiar with names of Preston Ruedinger, Marcus Hall, Foster Wonders, and Ryan Wade who all figure to be key pieces going forward. At the time of writing, no word on the availability of Foster Wonders, who sat out of the exhibition against St. Norbert on October 24th with a lower body injury that was suffered that day.
Two names Green Bay fans will want to learn in a hurry are Anthony Roy and Jeremiah Johnson. Both finished as double digit scorers in the exhibition win, where Roy had 46 of Green Bay’s 102 points, and Jeremiah Johnson chipped in 11 points. Johnson was actually committed to Oklahoma State before de-committing after a coaching change for the Cowboys. Green Bay big man Isaiah Miranda also spent time with OSU a year ago, before stepping away from the program to attend to a personal matter.
As for Oklahoma State, the Cowboys won its exhibition game, taking down the SMU Mustangs 89-78 in their preseason tuneup. Bryce Thompson led scoring in the contest with 24 points, which far outpaced his career average of 11.3 points per game in three years with Oklahoma State. Marchelus Avery also hit double figures in the game, as he finished with 14. Phoenix fans may also know the name Patrick Suemnick, who is a native of Denmark, WI and started his college career at Horizon League foe Robert Morris.
Tipoff is set for 8pm CT from Gallagher Iba Arena on the campus of Oklahoma State.
