Earlier today, it was announced that Wright State women’s basketball player Rylee Sagester was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week, making her the first Raider basketballer on the women’s side to receive conference weekly honors in the 2024-25 season.
Sagester, a 5-7 redshirt freshman from West Alexandria, Ohio – which is 41 minutes away in driving distance from the WSU campus, helped lead Kari Hoffman’s squad to their first two wins in conference play and snapping a 10-game losing streak in the process after the Raider women defeated Detroit Mercy 67-64 on Wednesday night and Youngstown State 77-62 on Sunday afternoon.
In both of those games combined, Sagester averaged 10 points in 15.5 minutes per contest, shooting 53.8 percent from the field (7-of-13) and 62.5 percent from downtown (5-of-8). On Wednesday, Sagester and teammate Claire Henson had a team-high 15 points each against Detroit Mercy, with Sagester going 4-of-5 from downtown that night.
Fun fact: Sagester graduated from Tri-Village High School in 2023 as the girls’ OHSAA record holder with 401 career three-pointers made.
The Wright State women will attempt to go for their third straight win as they make a road trip to Indianapolis for another conference matchup against the IU-Indy Jaguars this upcoming Wednesday night for a 6:30ET/5:30CT start time at The Jungle.
