The Wright State Raiders women’s basketball team have now lost all 10 of their road games this season after suffering a 74-53 defeat at the hands of the Robert Morris Colonials at the UPMC Events Center in Moon Township, PA.

Robert Morris was up 6-2 early until Wright State scored five straight points with a layup from Amaya Staton and a three-pointer from Lauren Scott for the 7-6 lead. Moments later, Katelyn Chomko and Abbie Riddle traded three-point buckets before RMU took the lead for good with six unanswered points courtesy of back-to-back shots from Mya Murray and a tip-in from Isys Grady for the 15-10 advantage. Eventually, Robert Morris was up 17-12 at the end of one.

In the second quarter, the Colonials scored 10 unanswered points and held WSU without a field goal for 5:05 in that same period before going into the locker room with a 35-24 advantage.

The Colonials even went on a 15-2 run for 4:03 in the third and had their biggest lead of the night at 25 at 58-33 with Naomi Barnwell scoring the last six points of that run and RMU outscoring WSU 23-11 in the period. WSU then flipped the script a little bit by outscoring Robert Morris 18-16 in the final period, but it was already too little and too late for a comeback at that point.

Wright State (5-17, 3-9 Horizon) made only 34 percent of their shots from the floor (22-of-53) and 23.5 percent of their three-pointers (4-of-17), but they made a solid 73.9 percent of their free throws (17-of-23). Claire Henson was the only Raider that scored in double digits and was a rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with 15 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Makiya Miller finished with nine points and five steals, while Macie Taylor recorded nine points off the bench.

Chandler McCabe’s RMU women (9-12, 5-7 Horizon), who are now tied for sixth place in the Horizon League standings with Northern Kentucky, are also winners of four straight games for the first time since the 2019-20 season and outrebounded WSU 38-19. Their only bad stat was committing 21 turnovers, which was four more than Wright State who had 17.

They also had a great all-around shooting performance by making 54 percent of their buckets from the field (27-of-54), 50 percent of their three-pointers (7-of-14), and an outstanding 88.2 percent of their foul shots (15-of-17).

Murray led all scorers with 16 points on 6-of-9 shots from the field, while Chomko scored 12 points off the bench and hit 4-of-5 shots from downtown. Also, 11 points for Grady, nine points and six rebounds off the bench for Barnwell, and Raissa Nsabua (RACE-uh SAB-wah) finished a field goal shy of a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Up next: Wright State returns home to host the Northern Kentucky Norse for their annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day game on Saturday, February 1 for a 2ET tip-off at the Nutter Center.
