Well, we’ve made it.
This article will include a preview of a game that takes place on March 1st. That’s right, it’s here already.
While these games will cap the regular season for the Oakland Golden Grizzlies, there is a bit of a tournament feel to them because of what’s at stake in terms of seeding.
That drama comes to a head on Thursday, when Oakland kicks of their season ending two game road trip at Milwaukee.
The Panthers are currently two games ahead of Oakland in the league standings, and with Oakland needing to catch one team for a first round bye, it will serve as a very important battle.
Milwaukee has a high powered offense that leads the country in fast break points. Themus Fulks is their leading scorer from the guard spot, while also averaging close to six assists a game. Kentrell Pullian, Aj McKee and Erik Pratt are all guards who score double figures as well.
The front court is led by Jamichael Stillwell, who is one of the top rebounders in the county and averages a double double.
These two teams first did battle on the second day of January, where Oakland held Milwaukee to a season low point total with a 65-49 win. Oakland will need to control the Milwaukee tempo like they did in that first matchup in order to come away with a win.
Oakland will wrap up the regular season on Saturday at Green Bay.
Green Bay has secured the 11 seed in the league tournament after a struggle this year. They currently have the worst winning percentage in the country.
However, this team has been competitive as of late, even knocking off Wright State by double figures at home. Marcus Hall leads the group with the only double figures average on the team, while Jeremiah Johnson, Yonatan Levy and Preston Ruedinger are all over eight points a game.
The first matchup at the Orena featured an Oakland team without suspended head coach Greg Kampe, and saw Oakland pull away in the second half to come away with the win.
There have been reports for weeks that Green Bay will get Anthony Roy, who was the nations leading scorer when he got hurt, back at some point this year. But there is no telling if that materializes or not. There could be an update before Saturday’s game as Green Bay takes on Detroit Mercy on Thursday.
Oakland’s game Thursday will tip off at 8pm Eastern Time, while Saturday’s contest starts at 7pm Eastern Time. Both games can be found on ESPN+.
